Dose and Strategy Tool

For behavioral intervention providers, the Dose and Strategy Tool uses individual characteristics and evaluation results coupled with research evidence to identify intervention intensity and optimize the approach to treatment. The AIM Dose and Strategy Tool includes the only evidence-based algorithm for determining intervention intensity that is derived from quantitative review on the research literature.

The tool also uses assessment information to provide strategy guidance on a range of dimensions, including: therapeutic environmental arrangement, target selection, reinforcement approach, child-led versus therapist-directed methods, guidance for specific domains of intervention, parent/caregiver training engagement, and approach toward additional challenging behavior assessment.

Users can complete the tool prior to intervention start and at key timepoints during the course of intervention to support authorization requests and clinical management decision-making. Completion involves collection of cognitive, language, adaptive function, autism symptom, challenging behavior, and several other treatment-relevant variables. The algorithm provides an estimated dose range in weekly hours of intervention as well as strategy decision support text that can be included in patient reporting.
